★ Welcome to The Graduate School Of The Chinese Academy Of Social Sciences (GSCASS), the top academic organ and research center of humanities and social sciences and the cradle of the Master degree or Doctoral Candidates.
The Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (GSCASS) is the only institution of higher learning directly under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) ---the top academic organization and research center of humanities and social sciences. Its main task is to educate the students seeking doctors and masters degrees of all the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. It was the first graduate school for humanities and social sciences founded on the mainland of China.
Currently, the school has set up six schools consisting of thirty-eight departments. It is solidly established and strong in philosophy, economics, management, history, archaeology, literature, linguistics, ethnic studies, religion, law, sociology, journalism, politics, demography and international studies. There are 68 specialties for doctor’s degrees and 78 specialties for master’s degrees. The school has over 500 teachers tutoring students studying for their doctor’s degrees and more than 600 teachers for master’s degrees. Currently, there are more than 700 Ph.D. candidates and 500 master candidates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, and nearly 100 from foreign countries. The school ranks in the front line in number of specialties so entitled throughout the whole country. Besides, there are 19 stations for postdoctoral students in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
★ There is a Chinese saying that “it takes 10 years to grow trees but 100 years to nurture a generation of good men”. Through 12 years’ development, the Chinese Train Center has helped thousands of foreign students from more 10 countries to study in China.
The Institute of Continuing Education of GSCASS, founded in 1988, is a special training institute of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences supplying further education for people working in various sectors. In 1992, the Institute of Continuing Education set up the Chinese Training Center for the purpose of training Chinese, introducing Chinese culture and increasing the understanding of China for students abroad. The Center supplies special Chinese training courses for those foreign applicants who are preparing for the Entry Examination for a Master degree or for Doctoral Candidates. Up to now, thousands of students from more than 10 countries and regions of the world have attended these courses and obtained their certificates. The Chinese Training Center has established programs of academic exchange and cooperation with many universities and colleges in the Unites States, Australia, Singapore and Korea. Besides admitting foreign students to engage in advanced studies, the center conducts various activities for culture exchange and Chinese learning.
On the strength of GSCASS’s abundant teaching and researching resources, the Chinese Training Center can supply various courses according to the foreign students’ Chinese levels and their different aims. There are long-term classes, short-term classes and summer/winter classes at various class levels including elementary, intermediate, and advanced classes. The center can offer language courses focused on listening, speaking, writing and other courses explaining China, Chinese history, Chinese culture, and so on. Besides such regular classes, the center can also offer specialty courses according to each student’s different job or major requirements. To guarantee the quality of the courses, the center hires excellent teachers and selects textbooks suitable to foreign students. The students can easily improve their Chinese level and acquire further understanding of Chinese culture.
